Watergym @SS4, Petaling Jaya

New in Town / PaganChee

I came to know about the Watergym – the first ever in Malaysia – via a small article featured in TimeOut magazine. So I decided to check it out and drag Leox along with me. 🙂

The watergym is situated in SS4, the residential area right after Kelana Jaya station beside LDP. If you are working in KL/PJ area, you know that traffic on LDP is an absolute nightmare during rush hour. It took me about 1.5 hair-pulling hours to reach the place from Damanasara Heights.

I’ve always like water, so walking into the watergym and smelling the chlorine was an immediate stress relief for me. Only a handful of people were in the watergym that day, thus it’s not crowded. After changing into our bathers, we stepped into the above ground pool… with no hard surface. Weird feeling, that. The pool was maintained at 28-30 degrees though I still feel cold. Leox felt very hot though.

We were instructed to do some warm up and aerobics exercise following the video on screen. It was hilarious trying to follow the video exercise without guidance. It showed an instructor on land doing the moves which we followed mirror-like, and then it’d cut to the students inside the pool and then we were quite flustered because it’s the opposite direction! Most of the time Leox and me were just flopping the water around and giggled a lot.

When we finally finished the video, an instructor came over and taught us how to use the machines – the bike, the run mill, and urm… something like a ski machine type. Next, he gave us 4 different types of equipment to use for strength training. I did not anticipate for that these ‘toys’ made from soft materials could be way more difficult to work out with compared to the machines!

All in all, I would say that it was a good experience and I wouldn’t mind going back again – though I think it’ll be hard without instructions and guidance. 😀
