the need to soften up

People always tell me that I am a strong, independent woman. They also told me I have a haughty look – one that literally screams “I am better than you”.

Well, it honestly doesn’t help when the “people” who told me that includes my best friends, my younger brothers, my aiya-brother, and the most unbelievably – my *dad*!

Dad: “Why you so career minded? You know a woman your age should start thinking about finding a nice boy & get settled down. Why you want to work so hard?”

Me: “Because I want to be independent! And don’t expect me to get married in the next 5 years because I’m still young, I want to see where I can go in my life.”

Dad: “Why do you need to proof yourself? You’re a female. A woman’s proper place is to be by the man! Work so hard for what? You need a man in your life!”

Me: “DAD! YOU ARE SUCH A MALE CHAUVINIST!”
(very appalled at my dad at this point)

Dad: “Faster go & find a nice boy lah, you know I really want to hear the pitter patter of little feet soon.”

Me: “ASK YOUR SONS TO GET MARRIED NOT ME!”
(feeling thoroughly nauseated)

Dad: “Aiyo… You cannot be so strong you know? Guys like soft, gentle women that will listen to them, cook for them at home, support them at all times… You so strong, you will scared away all the guys lah… so you must be softer you know? Wear more womanly clothes, change your independent streaks, don’t act so strong, then the guys will come to you.”

Me: “WHAT? Why do I want guys that can’t take me as I am? Why do I need to change my personality just to get the guys? Plus, I wear *skirts* & put make up to work everyday leh!”
(aghast is the correct sentiment)

Dad: “Why you so headstrong ah? You don’t be like me can a not? You don’t always look so ‘diao-geh’ (snobbish) lah, be softer a bit. Let the man be the man, you don’t have to be the man! Listen to dad won’t be wrong one…”

Me: “Wahhhhhh! I’m your daughter mah! That’s why I’m like you! And how to change my personality like that lah?”

after several minutes of this conversation goes round & round in the same thread…

Dad: “Ok ok lah, tell you what, I’ll buy the Buddhism book (佛经) for you ok? You go read it then you won’t always be so gung-ho & will able to soften up a bit.”

Me: “Ok loh…..” *sweat*

Dad: “Ok ok! I’ll go buy the book for you later ok!”

Me: *HUGE SWEAT*

Anything to make my dad happy I guess… but a Buddism book? Kudos to my dad for his originality! Mannn… I will pretend that this entire conversation has never taken place. LOL

And PS: I am perfectly happy the way I am!

I’m well on my way

…to become a certified alcoholic.

No, correction. Gold-certified alcoholic. LOL

Why? Nah.. tsk, there’s only ever 1 reason = I like.

a second chance

On a calm riverside, there is a 2-storey rectangular house, which has a huge balcony on one end of the second floor, facing the river. Beside the house is a steel bridge connecting to the other side of the river.

In the evening light, light music is playing while invited guests mill around mingling and chatting, generally having a good time with a champagne on their hands.

And I find myself standing in the corridor leading towards the balcony.
And I have been here before.
And I know it in my heart what is going to happen next.

The balcony end is going to explode in matter of minutes.

I recalled being flung from the balcony, together with shreds and pieces of wood, stones and steel by the sheer force of explosion.

So why am I here again?

Did I survive? Or did I die previously? Is God giving me a second chance now so I can survive the ordeal? Am I supposed to find another way out?

Panic with the surety of explosion, I begin to dash towards the bridge with heavy breath and sinking heart. How many minutes, no, seconds, I have to get away? How much longer do I really have?

The bridge, the bridge, that is all my head is telling me. That is where my feet takes me. That is my only way to survive. That is where I run towards to – the bridge that connects to the other side of the river.

I can see the bridge now, I am running on the bridge now, I am almost reaching the other side when the explosion happened. The bridge broke into half by the impact and then I am suddenly under the water.

Still sinking, I tell myself it’s OK. I am so close now. I can see the ladders leading up to the riverbank. They are only couple strokes away. I can swim. I can reach the ladders. I can survive this.

When suddenly a thought hit me – perhaps God intend me to warn all the other unsuspecting folks to fled and therefore stand a chance to survive, instead of me saving myself, by giving me a second chance?

in the silence of the night

I can hear the wind whispering outside my window
I can hear the pages rustling when I turn the book
I can hear the water dripping in the sink
I can hear the candles burning lighting in the incense pot
I can hear the distant siren out on the highway below
I can hear my own sigh resonating with the walls surrounding me

And no words can expressed how much I miss you – nutty and wonderkittie.

I know life is never easy.
I know that even the bestest friend has to part way some time in their life.
I know I am supposed to wish them well and let them live their life.
But why is it that it gets harder & harder each year?
I do not want to let go.
Actually I can’t let go.
Yet I must learn to let go.

I miss you girls heaps…

That Namewee will definitely be ripped apart by the fanatic patriots of Malaysia for blesphamizing the Malaysia’s national anthem right?

And I quote from TheStar:
“Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum said police would investigate the rap video while MCA Youth chief Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said Wee had insulted the national anthem.”

Investigate the rap video? Whatever for? To perhaps see if there’s any terrorist-like intentions in the video? Or any bomb-making advise?

Didn’t we all learn from school to receive criticisms, be it constructive or destructive, in order for us to keep a good head on our shoulders? So… guess this doesn’t apply when it comes to country.

5.30am

…is THE time when one of my *very considerate* neighbor had decided that none of us are exercising enough so he purposely burned down his stove in order for all of us to have a fantastic night of running down ENDLESS FLIGHTS OF STAIRS! (Yeah, you go try running down the stairs the same speed and urgency as I did when some there were still some alcohol swimming in your head!)

This grandiose gesture is of course met with collective enmity from the mums with babies who woke up & cried; the parents with young kids who thought this was all a game; the sleepyheads who didn’t really know how they got down there…

…And especiallyfrom the party-goers who were actually busy chilling out after a totally terrific Saturday clubbing night and hadn’t have the time to change to normal clothings yet! (think bare back top + mini skirt)

Luckily for us, the fire – actually just 2 floors below my unit, was put out in about 30-long-and-uncomfortable-minutes by our heroic guards.(The fire brigade came like 1 hour later… WTF, the whole condo would have been burned to ashes by then!)

The moral of the story? …Could somebody please remind me not to stay in a high-rise building again?

Bossa Nova @ Park Royal Hotel

Had a food tasting session at Bossa Nova, a Brazillian Grill just this week. Well, all I know is that it’s situated inside Park Royal Hotel, which can be a royal arse to get to because of the heavy traffic along Jalan Sultan Ismail.

The parking is… horrendous. No clear signage to direct patrons to the hotel car park as there are some construction going on near the hotel. So how do you go to the car park? Have some Malaysian-esque blind faith — keep going until you see the next road sign.

In any case, my breath was quite taken away when I stepped inside Bossa Nova. The interior used mainly stones and warm tone colours – it makes you feel as if you’re not in Malaysia for a spilt second. And then the serving girls wearing the salsa costume are soo cute…

For the appetizers alone, you’ve got a selection of more than 20 items! You *must* try their beef soup, it is one of the best that I’ve tasted so far.

And would you believe how sinful the desserts look? (The little chocolate thing is good) But to be honest with you, our whole gang’s interested was more or less locked on the chocolate fondue fountain they had on the other restaurant haha.

But the *most* special thing on the menu is of course, their prime quality cuts flew in from Argentina and Australia, and prepared by their resident Brazilian cook. All the different meat were served individually with the service person holding a huge knife and the meat still oozing with heat on the spit stick. The beef and lamb are sooooooo nice that we cannot stop eating!

Their mint jelly is the best!

I was told by one of the managers that one chuck of the top side of the beef from Australia cost RM1,000 each! @_@

In any case, you’ll find a little round red/green token on your seat. They’re actually a signal for the waiters to continue load you up with food. “Red” is for no thanks; “Green” is for bring it on!

Ohh.. and they do have a little dancefloor for all the salsa-goers to boogy! There’s a new band coming in on August 8 so all you salsa freaks please make your way down there to experience a super fun Brazilian night out!

So How Do I Rate It?
Food? 4.5/5 (their meat is yummmyyyy)
Beverages? 4/5 (strong drinks. Very nice.)
Service? 4/5 (very attentive service personnel)
Price? RM48++ per person (buffet lunch); RM58++ per person for buffet dinne)(For a buffet in KL? It’s actually considered quite OK)
Must try? Beef soup, special Brazilian appetizers, coconut ice cream, their MEAT of course. and yeah, their Whisky Sour.
